David Hinchliffe, painter, photographer and a former Brisbane City Councillor, created the book, Two to the Valley, a photographic record first published in 1992. His photographic work captured the Valley, its architecture and its occasionally irreverent populace as it emerged from decades of decay to become the vibrant entertainment district it is today. A journey in co-existence, co-design, the repurposing of public facilities, and municipal co-operation.
“Two to the Valley” was the call from passengers boarding trams in the days when Brisbane streets had a left lane, right lane and tracks down the middle. The story goes that the call for two tickets would be enhanced by a show of two fingers.
This walk will take you on parts of David’s journey through the Valley that inspired him to publish the book. The walk will be approximately two hours.
Meeting at 3.30pm at The Maud Street Photo Gallery, 6 Maud Street, Newstead, we will make our way to the Valley to meet up with David. We suggest comfortable shoes, a hat, a camera or two and anything else you think you might need to enjoy the experience.
A minimum of 8 participants are required for the Event to go ahead. A full refund will be given should the Event be cancelled.
