Viewing of Historical photographic folios at SLQ

The Queensland Centre for Photography has organised a guided tour to the Queensland State Library, to explore a selection of fascinating historical photographic folios.

When: May 16, meet at the foyer of Queensland State Library at 9.45 am for 10 am start.

Address: Cultural Centre, Stanley Place, South Brisbane.

During the visit, we’ll have the opportunity to view works by three notable photographers:

  • Harriett Brims (1864–1939) – A pioneer female commercial photographer from Ingham and Mareeba, Harriett ran the Britannia studio. Some of her original equipment will also be on display.
  • Antoine Julien Fauchery (1823–1861) – Fauchery’s activities in Australia were primarily centered around Victoria, where he documented the goldfields and rural life.
  • Richard Daintree (1832–1878) – A skilled photographer and geologist, Daintree conducted a groundbreaking geological survey of Queensland beginning in 1868.

We’ll be guided by Reuben Hillier, who will lead us through the viewing. The visit also includes a planned stop at the Preservation Services, where Kelly Leahey is currently working on restoring some of Daintree’s original pieces.

This is a REGISTRATION ONLY free event. Places are strictly limited.
